Who we are

Yorkshire has never been short of makers. It has been short of a way to find them.

The Guild is a membership body, not a booking system. Every maker is chosen on the strength of their work, and every market we run is built from that membership — so a Guild stall is a promise about what's on the table.

We're for the potter firing in a garden studio in Holmfirth, the bookbinder in a Leeds railway arch, the small-batch distiller, the woodworker, the weaver. People who make the thing themselves, in Yorkshire, and who'd rather spend Saturday talking to customers than fighting an algorithm.

Members carry the rose. It tells a customer that someone has checked.

  • I. Made, not bought in. You design and make the work yourself, or lead a small team who do. No resale, no white-label, no drop-shipping.
  • II. Rooted in Yorkshire. Your workshop, studio or kitchen is in the county — or your work is unmistakably of it.
  • III. Held to a standard. Every application is reviewed on craft, finish and originality before an invitation is issued.
  • IV. Straight with customers. Honest materials, honest provenance, honest pricing. Members stand behind what they sell.

What we do

Three things, done properly

We'd rather run a handful of excellent days than a calendar full of half-full ones.

Curated markets

Guild markets in Yorkshire towns and cities, with the trade mix balanced so you're not stood next to four other candle makers. Stall fees flat and published, no commission on your takings.

Events & seasonal gatherings

Summer gatherings, Christmas markets, open studio trails and maker demonstrations — days built to bring buyers out, not just to fill a car park.

A working community

Shared suppliers, honest pricing chat, kit on loan, someone to cover your stall while you get a brew. The bit that's hard to do on your own.

How to join

Four steps, and a real person at every one

Applications are read in the order they arrive. Expect to hear from us inside fourteen days.

Apply

Tell us about your work, how you make it and where. Photographs matter more than a polished write-up — send us the bench, not the brochure.

Review

Two of us read every application against the Guild's standards. If something's unclear we'll ask rather than assume, and we'll tell you either way.

Invitation

Successful makers are invited to join, with membership terms and the year's market dates set out in full before you commit a penny.

Welcome

Your crest, your directory profile and your first pitch. We'll introduce you to the members nearest you and get you on a date that suits.

Put your name to it

Applications for the coming season are open. It takes about ten minutes, and there's no fee to apply.

Questions

Before you apply

What does membership cost?

Applying is free. If you're invited, membership is billed annually and confirmed in your invitation — you'll see the figure before you agree to anything. Market pitches are charged separately at a flat fee, and we never take a percentage of what you sell.

I'm just starting out. Is it worth applying?

Yes. We assess the work, not the turnover. Plenty of members joined with a kitchen table, a website and six months' trading behind them.

I live just over the border. Can I still join?

Get in touch before applying. The Guild is a Yorkshire body, but we'd rather talk it through than turn away someone whose work clearly belongs here.

Do I have to trade at every market?

No. Members get first refusal on dates and choose what suits their diary and their stock. Nobody is penalised for sitting a season out.

What do I need in place to trade with you?

Public liability insurance, and any trade-specific requirements for what you make — food hygiene registration, for instance, or CE/UKCA marking on toys and cosmetics. We'll tell you exactly what applies to you at invitation.

What happens if my application isn't successful?

We'll tell you why, and what would make the difference. You're welcome to apply again in six months.
